With over 25,000 expected visitors, NUFAM – The Trade Fair for Commercial Vehicles will be the industry’s meeting place from 26 to 29 September 2019. Approximately 400 exhibitors from 13 countries will present the entire range of products and services: vehicles of all weight classes, bodies and trailers, tyres, parts, accessories, workshop equipment, telematics solutions and services. An insight into the portfolio of the sixth NUFAM at Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre was provided by the (online) press conference with top-class exhibitors and a presentation of the trade fair’s highlights. Britta Wirtz, Managing Director of Karlsruhe Trade Fair, says: “Karlsruhe is not only renowned as a centre of contemporary technology and IT, but also as a pioneer in merchandise mobility. In 2019, the commercial vehicles industry will present its latest innovations at NUFAM. We are the information and investment platform for decision-makers from the transport, freight forwarding and logistics sectors, small and medium-sized businesses, the skilled trades and the municipal sector.” NUFAM is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. For the first time, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure will assume patronage of NUFAM in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport of Baden-Württemberg.

Growth in all areas

In 2019, NUFAM will occupy an exhibition area of 70,000 square meters, comprising all four halls of the Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre and its adjoining open-air campus. NUFAM can report growth in all exhibitor segments in 2019. Due to the steadily growing number of exhibitors and the increasingly strong demand for large stands, the catering and special areas have been optimized in favour of new stand presentations. Qualitative and quantitative growth can be reported, especially in the areas of body and trailer manufacturers, vehicle construction components and workshop equipment. For the first time, Fahrzeugwerk Bernard Krone, BENALU, Lamberet, Titgemeyer Group and WM SE will all be exhibiting at the trade fair for commercial vehicles. The major manufacturing brands are likewise represented, e.g. more than 40 commercial vehicles will be shown by S&G Automobil AG, which is Daimler AG’s largest Mercedes-Benz service partner.

Numerous exhibitors present their latest innovations in the field of digitization and automation at NUFAM. A foretaste was provided at the press conference by Palfinger, a manufacturer of loading cranes, which demonstrated a VR crane simulator, and by BPW Bergische Achsen, which presented digital products along the entire transport chain. The spectrum ranged from digital undercarriages to tracking for intelligent cargo securing and freight tracking systems.

NUFAM shows the latest research on turn assistants

The increasing digitization of the industry is also reflected in the supporting programme of the trade fair. The use of turn assistants is a particular focus. It is often difficult for drivers of heavy commercial vehicles to keep an eye on the overall situation when turning. Turning assistants should therefore be mandatory for lorries. A research project of the Steinbeis Transfer Centre Mobility and Logistics under the direction of Prof. Dr. Jochen Baier, in collaboration with the Verband Spedition und Logistik Baden-Württemberg e.V., is conducting a field trial to determine how turn assistants can be used most effectively. The initial results will be presented at the “Right Turn Assistants Save Lives” event in the Demo Park at NUFAM. This project is supported by the Ministry of Transport of Baden-Württemberg. At NUFAM, Baden-Württemberg’s Minister of Transport Winfried Hermann will take part in a presentation of the interim results on this subject and in a live demonstration of the behaviour of the blind spot with and without a right-turn assistant.

Structured visit to the trade fair through thematic areas and tours

Grouped subject areas in the halls enable trade visitors to enjoy a well-structured visit to the trade fair. A large number of workshop equipment suppliers and parts suppliers are exhibiting in the “Workshop, Parts, Accessories” area in Halls 1 and 2. For example, industry giants such as Winkler, Hofmeister & Meincke and Werbas will present their products here. Major tyre manufacturers such as Aeolus Tyres, Bridgestone and Falken Tire, as well as Bohnenkamp, Pneuhage and Reiff Reifen, will be represented in the “Tyres” section (Hall 3 and dm-arena). PTC Telematik, Yellow Fox and DAKO will present the latest telematics systems in the telematics area (Hall 3). Visitors can also familiarize themselves with the latest telematics solutions and obtain information at lectures and discussions in the adjacent Telematics Forum and in the “Telematics VIP Lounge”. The focus in Hall 3 is on job search, further training opportunities and networking with associations and institutions.

The four exhibition halls and the open-air exhibition area are augmented by the Municipal Mile (between Halls 1 and 2, as well as in Hall 3 and the dm-arena), where commercial vehicles for the municipal sector are presented, and by the Demo Park with its comprehensive programme for the public.

Visitors can also take part in guided tours of the fair. In addition to the Classic tour, which gives a broad overview of the trade fair, New Mobility tours are also offered. Here, exhibitors present their innovations from the fields of alternative drives, digital assistance systems, and vehicle and product premieres relating to New Mobility.

Programme for trade visitors provides practical information

As an information platform and industry meeting place for personal networking, NUFAM offers specialized days dedicated to telematics, municipal vehicles and cargo securing, as well as lectures and discussions on current topics in the commercial vehicles industry. The spectrum of topics covered by the lectures and discussions at NUFAM’s forum extends from cargo securing and digital tachographs to the use of driver assistance systems. Current topics and questions facing the commercial vehicles industry will be critically examined in a solution-oriented manner during the four days of the fair. The focus will be on future topics such as electric-powered mobility and autonomous driving, as well as on ongoing issues such as energy efficiency, time savings, cost reduction, and the shortage of drivers. The specialized programme also considers technical and regulatory challenges facing the industry.

The available exhibition space at NUFAM – The Trade Fair for Commercial Vehicles (26 - 29 September) had never been booked as quickly as it was for this year’s upcoming sixth edition. Five months still remain before the next NUFAM begins, but over 90% of the space in the four halls and on the extensive open-air exhibition area has already been bindingly reserved. First-time exhibitors will occupy 25% of the available area. Four hundred exhibitors, many of which are key players in the industry, will again transform Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre into a meeting place for everyone who is enthusiastic about commercial vehicles.

Increased numbers of exhibitors made it necessary to optimize the spatial planning

The sixth NUFAM will welcome circa 400 exhibitors, including 70 newcomers that will be exhibiting at the specialized trade fair for the first time. Furthermore, many longstanding exhibitors have opted to enlarge their stands. The constantly growing number of exhibitors and especially the strong demand for large stands made it necessary for the project team to optimize the spatial planning. “In addition to continuing to cultivate relationships with veteran exhibitors, we also place great importance on attracting important players in the industry to NUFAM for the first time. Not only will the upcoming event host more exhibitors than ever, but 25% of these companies will present themselves at NUFAM for the first time. To provide space for the additional exhibitors, we have optimized our catering areas and other special areas to accommodate new stand presentations”, reports NUFAM’s Project Director Jochen Bortfeld.

Big players from the vehicle and superstructure manufacturers will be represented onsite

NUFAM’s exhibitors present the full spectrum of products and services in the commercial vehicles industry. Leading manufacturing brands such as DAF, Daimler, IVECO, MAN and Scania will be represented at NUFAM, as will superstructure and trailer manufacturers such as Kässbohrer, Dautel, Schwarzmüller, Kögel and Humbaur. First-time exhibitors among the superstructure manufacturers include key players such as Fahrzeugwerk Bernard Krone, Lamberet Deutschland and BENALU SAS. Philipp Klause, sales director for transporters at LAMBERET Deutschland GmbH, comments on his company’s debut at NUFAM: “NUFAM’s importance has grown steadily during the past years. As an international manufacturer of high-quality refrigerated vehicles, we plan to show specialized visitors many innovative solutions for transporting refrigerated or frozen cargo. In addition to cooling and deep-freeze van bodies and refrigerated semitrailers from the Lamberet brand, we will also present our refrigerated transporters from the Kerstner brand. We especially want to use NUFAM to spark interest in our products, to make new contact, and to get to know potential new customers.

Exhibitors are enlarging their stand presentations

Many returning exhibitors will have unprecedentedly spacious stands at NUFAM in 2019, which will also feature renowned exhibitors and large presentations in the fields of vehicle manufacturing and workshop equipment. The vehicle manufacturing specialist Hofmeister & Meincke, for example, will be represented at a larger stand with an overall area of 300 square metres. The decision-makers at this Bremen-based company did not fail to notice that NUFAM is drawing increasingly larger numbers of exhibitors: “From our point of view, it appears that NUFAM has clearly improved the quality and increased the number of big-name exhibitors from our industry. As a North German dealer in vehicle parts and components, Germany’s southern and south-western regions are strategically significant for our efforts to acquire new customers. Furthermore, many potential customers from these southerly regions prefer not to make the long journey to the IAA in Hanover, but go to NUFAM in Karlsruhe instead”, explains Paul Franke, director of digital marketing and communication at Hofmeister & Meincke GmbH from Bremen.

The trend toward progressively larger stand areas continues unabatedly strong. MAN, for example, will present itself on an overall area of 1,500 square metres, thus more than tripling the size of its stand space. BPW, Titgemeyer Group and WM SE have likewise decided to significantly enlarge their stands. NUFAM’s open-air exhibition area will also be expanded for the upcoming event. In addition to the Municipal Mile, which displays commercial vehicles for use in municipalities, this area will focus primarily on loading cranes. The full spectrum of crane technology will be on display both here and inside the halls by Palfinger, ATLAS, Hiab, HMF and many other exhibitors. The diversity of the commercial vehicles industry will also be shown live at NUFAM in the newly redesigned Demo Park: digitized with a large-format screen, live camera technology and a professional sound system, the Demo Park offers exhibitors totally new ways to present their vehicles in 2019.

NUFAM 2019 with Double Patronage

The upcoming sixth edition of the trade fair for commercial vehicles is supported by twofold patronage. Baden-Württemberg’s Transport Minister Winfried Hermann was already the patron of past editions of NUFAM and has been present in Karlsruhe on multiple occasions. And now, in collaboration with Baden-Württemberg’s Transport Ministry, the Federal Ministry for Transport and Digital Infrastructure will be a patron of NUFAM for the first time in 2019. The Federal Transport Ministry’s patronage underscores the nationwide significance of this specialized trade fair.

NUFAM has grown steadily since its founding in 2009. With more than 23,000 professional visitors from throughout Germany and neighbouring countries, NUFAM has firmly established itself as a “must-attend” event for the industry. The upcoming NUFAM boasts strong growth, both qualitatively and quantitatively. With approximately 400 exhibitors, next year’s fair will occupy all of the halls and the spacious outdoor campus of Karlsruhe Trade Fair Centre.

Strongly Positioned in Vehicle Construction and Workshop Equipment

The fair’s acquisitions team was particularly successful in the fields of vehicle construction and workshop outfitting. Fahrzeugwerk Bernard Krone, which ranks among the key players in this industry, will exhibit at NUFAM for the first time in 2019. Many other big names in vehicle construction will likewise be represented at the fair. They include, for example, F. X. Meiller, Fahrzeugbau Kempf, Meusburger Fahrzeugbau, Müller-Mitteltal, Reisch Fahrzeugbau and Schwarzmüller. Humbaur und Kögel, an important manufacturer of vehicle bodies and trailers, will be present with a stand fully twice as large as last year’s stand. NUFAM 2019 is also strongly positioned in the areas of workshop outfitting and suppliers for vehicle construction. Alongside veteran exhibitors such as Winkler Fahrzeugteile, Hofmeister & Meincke, Suer Nutzfahrzeugtechnik, BPW, JOST and SAF Holland, Karlsruhe Trade Fair also welcomes for the first time other market-leading suppliers and outfitters such as WM SE Unternehmensgruppe and Titgemeyer Gruppe.

NUFAM with a new style at the IAA Commercial Vehicles

“Get things moving!” is the new claim of NUFAM – The Trade Fair for Commercial Vehicles. As a central platform for information about the theme of commercial vehicles, NUFAM is constantly evolving. In this context, NUFAM takes into consideration technical and regulatory challenges in the industry, as well as the driving forces of digitization, alternative drives and urban logistics, which are increasingly occupying the focus of attention. The specialized trade fair’s new claim takes these developments into account.

Project Manager Jochen Bortfeld comments on NUFAM’s new slogan: “When we say ‘Get things moving!’, we simultaneously make a promise to our visitors and exhibitors: collaboratively, we can put plenty in motion. NUFAM brings together the key players in the commercial vehicles industry and joins with them to master the coming challenges. We are well prepared for the future of mobility in the commercial vehicles sector, for which we again offer a platform in Karlsruhe in 2019.”

Of course, NUFAM is also present at the year’s preeminent commercial vehicles event, i.e. the IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hannover, where NUFAM presents itself at Stand A32 in Hall 25 with a new appearance and active consulting services for interested visitors and exhibitors. NUFAM is already looking ahead to 2019, when the fair expects to host 400 exhibitors on a maximal area of over 65,000 square meters. The layout of the stand areas is undergoing further optimization so each exhibitor can have the best possible placement in the fair’s halls and/or on its outdoor grounds. Many spaces have already been booked or optioned.

NUFAM has also appeared digitally with a new look since May 2018. With the re-launch of the NUFAM website, the design has been revised and both the usability and the utilization for mobile devices have been optimized. The commercial vehicle fair’s Internet presence now offers a totally new experience for all its users, whether exhibitors, visitors or journalists.

A Profitable Platform

NUFAM 2017 came to a successful conclusion. The full spectrum of products and services in the commercial vehicles industry was shown by 370 exhibitors from 17 countries. Presenting an even broader selection this year, NUFAM occupied the entire fairgrounds for the first time. Over 20,000 participants explored the unprecedentedly large exhibition area, which spanned more than 70,000 square meters. NUFAM registered significantly higher business activity among the specialized visitors: one in five made investment decisions onsite and one in three is concretely planning to purchase items after the fair, which accordingly promises growth of 10% compared to the previous event. Investments made directly at the fair by professional visitors increased by 52% compared to the preceding NUFAM.

“NUFAM’s evolution is a success story. Favourably positioned in the economically strong region of southern Germany, this fair is an excellent platform for investment decisions by industry visitors from throughout Germany and its neighbouring countries. Our accurately targeted solicitation of German professional visitors led to record-breaking sales by the exhibitors”, Britta Wirtz summarizes. The fair’s national importance is also evident in the strong interest shown by policymakers and relevant associations. For example, Winfried Hermann, Minister for Transport of the State of Baden-Württemberg, paid two visits to NUFAM, thus further emphasizing the fair’s importance.

NUFAM – A Forum for Decision-Makers

For the first time in its history, NUFAM attracted visitors from all of Germany’s federal states. The percentage of specialized visitors who travelled more than 300 kilometres to attend this event rose markedly for the second consecutive time, posting a seven percent increase this year. The exhibitors noticed this too: “We can feel that the catchment area has continued to grow compared to the previous fair. We held discussions with customers from neighbouring foreign countries. For example, we had several customers from France at our stand”, emphasizes Hans Brunner, Regional Sales Director, F.X. Meiller Fahrzeug- und Maschinenfabrik-GmbH & Co KG. Daniel Thommen, Managing Director of the telematics expert Lost n Found AG, is likewise pleased by the large number of European professional visitors: “We reach potential new customers here and we had several prospective buyers from Switzerland, Austria and Lithuania at our stand.”

NUFAM particularly scored points with the exhibitors thanks to the large percentage of specialists among its visitors. Exhibitors especially praised the quality and frequency of the visitors at their stands. This was confirmed, for example, by Christoph Huber, Sales Director at MAN Truck & Bus Deutschland GmbH: “But above all, it’s important for us that we really did brisk business here. We had a significantly larger number of successful transactions this year than at the previous fair and we are pleased that we sold several hundred trucks.”

Alternative drives and numerous new products spark visitors’ enthusiasm

The exhibitors further increased their utilization of NUFAM as a forum for market launches. New and innovative players in this industry also presented their products and concepts at the trade show. “We specifically showed our electric commercial vehicles for cities and metropolitan areas to our customers and we initiated many good business contacts. We were definitely able to reach our target group of large fleet customers”, says Marcus Arens, Director Marketing and Sales at Streetscooter GmbH. In addition to viewing new products, visitors were also very strongly interested in classical vehicle and trailer construction: “We were quite successful here. We made successful deals and prepared the ground for numerous future transactions, so we are very satisfied. We will certainly return two years from now”, says Markus Wiedemann, Sales Director at Humbaur GmbH.

Visitors likewise strongly appreciated the extensive framework programme for transport and logistics companies, as well as the “Theme Days” for tradesmen and professional truck drivers. The “Treffpunkt Kommunal”, i.e. the “Municipal Meeting Place”, was especially warmly received: many municipal decision-makers took advantage of this top-class event as an opportunity to acquire pertinent information. Municipal fleet managers showed particularly avid interest in vehicles with zero-emission and low-emission drives.

NUFAM looks forward to welcoming its 100,000th specialized visitor at the next fair, which will take place from 26 to 29 September 2019.
